Breathing problems lead to
Most parents are told that snoring is normal or that their child will grow out of mouth breathing. In many cases, that’s not true — and the longer these patterns continue, the more impact they have on your child’s development, dental health, and quality of life.
At Pristine Kids, we specialise in identifying and treating the root causes of breathing problems in children — from narrow airways and enlarged tonsils to jaw structure and tongue posture. The earlier we catch it, the simpler the solution.
What is An Airway Assessment?
An airway assessment at Pristine Kids is a comprehensive, non-invasive examination of the factors that affect your child’s breathing — from their jaw structure and nasal airway to their tongue posture and sleep habits.
What we assess:
- Nasal airway and breathing patterns at rest
- Jaw width, bite, and facial development
- Tonsil and adenoid size (referral to ENT if needed)
- Sleep habits and symptoms (via parent questionnaire)
- Dental health impact: dry mouth, cavities, enamel wear from grinding
What To expect:
The assessment takes approximately 45–60 minutes. At the end of your appointment, we’ll share our findings in plain language and provide a personalised action plan — whether that’s monitoring, referral, or beginning treatment at Pristine Kids.
The ADHD-breahting connection
Could breathing be behind your child’s focus and behaviour problems?
Sleep-disordered breathing reduces oxygen to the brain at night — causing daytime hyperactivity, poor concentration, and mood issues that closely mirror ADHD.
When a child’s airway is restricted during sleep, their brain is repeatedly deprived of oxygen throughout the night. The result isn’t just tiredness — it’s a cascade of daytime symptoms that many parents (and doctors) mistake for behavioural or attention disorders.
Overlapping symptoms — sleep-disordered breathing vs ADHD
- Difficulty concentrating or staying on task
- Hyperactivity and impulsivity
- Irritability, moodiness, or emotional dysregulation
- Poor academic performance
- Difficulty waking in the morning
